Cell phones have now become a fact of life, a necessity, and a “must have” item. People from all walks of life, all shapes and size and from every age group are embracing the cell phone like a new part of their anatomy that they cannot be without.

Before you decide to take the plunge and give your child a mobile phone, why not have a chat with them. Ask them to explain why they feel they are older enough to need and use a cell phone. This will not just give you a better idea of the need they may have for a cell phone, but it also allows the child to feel part of the decision making process, that their thoughts are heard and actually listened to.

Depending on the age of your child, you may decide that a simple, easy to use cell phone may indeed be a good idea for your child to have. Certain phones on the market allow for only number pre-programmed onto the phone by the parents to be dialed and answered. This gives added security that your child cannot be contacted by anyone not in the contact list.

Keeping your child safe is always on the mind of parents. Providing them with a mobile phone gives them a way to call for help when they need it most, calling 911 or even calling home, looking for Mum or Dad to collect them. A cell phone also provides the parents a way to get in contact quickly with their child, to ensure they are ok.

The older the child gets, the more applications they will want, such as music player, camera or even to use the internet on their cell phone. Explaining to your child the best way to use these applications may be beneficial for all parties.

Shop around when you are looking to buy a cell phone. Many operators will offer attractive rates for pay-as-you-go tariffs, or adding them onto your contract plan to ensure they don’t run out of credit when they need it most.

Cell phones are great ways to keep in touch. With many children having numerous after school activities, keeping track of them is very important, with cell phones making it very easy to do.
